Australian Independent Vendors (AIV)™ is a division of Bidvest Australia, Australia's largest Food Service Distributor. AIV currently services a wide marketplace of food-service customers, focusing on what we call the third tier distributions, or Route Trade, servicing small drops which other larger companies can not or do not want to do. Our customers include Bakeries, Butchers, Convenience Stores, Cafes, Caterers, Day Care Centers, Delicatessens, Hairdressers, Hotels and Motels, Offices, Restaurants, Service Stations, Snack Bars, Sports Canteens and many more.

AIV customers are predominantly serviced by van sales where an AIV Franchise Vendor with a van full of stock delivers right to the customer's door.  AIV offers Real Time Service, enabling customers to choose from a wide range of products to accommodate their daily requirements and needs. With access to the large Bidvest product range, and close customer relations, AIV offers premium service and scope to the Route Trade market.

The challenge

The growth in food distribution, and the opportunity to capitalize on new technology was a key driver for AIV to look at implementing an electronic business tool for vendors. A lot of vendor time is used in manual data entry, handwriting orders, and reconciling at the end of the day, all a result of the paper trail. To eliminate the paper trail is to save time in these areas and others, time that is better spent serving more customers.

What was the aim of AIV?

To introduce a paperless system.
