Fulcrum Case Study

Who is Fulcrum Suspensions?

Established over 25 years ago, Fulcrum Suspensions is the leading steering and suspension specialist in Australia.

The Objective

Fulcrum Suspensions sought an innovative way to make their suspension parts manufacturing operations more efficient and more accountable.
The company required a system that could track raw materials, parts in progress and inventory throughout the manufacturing, purchasing, warehousing and distribution cycles. This tracking would monitor processing times, tooling turnarounds and status, material quantities, job completion status and Quality Assurance information.

The Challenge

The challenge for DCIG, which is a part of the Absoft Group of companies, was in adapting an existing DCIG product called Spyder (mobile Sales Order application) to a harsh manufacturing environment and seamlessly integrating the captured data with the chosen backend MRP and Accounting system.

Key Points for the Solution

A detailed analysis of Fulcrums'™ operations and requirements highlighted the oven pouring element of the production process as the area in which data capture techniques could most effectively increase efficiencies. With an estimated $200,000 per year lost in over production costs, it was easy to justify the cost of developing new technology methods that would fund the entire first phase solution.

Other key areas for efficiency gains included the ability to record wastage and automatically adjust job details based on rejected parts throughout the entire production process.

The Benefits

SpyderMan enables managers to have up to date data and reports on job status, quality, wastage, over/underproduction and reasons, inventory and stock tracking, improving internal quality, and workshop efficiency. By implementing SpyderMan Data Capturing Solution, Fulcrum have realised tangible bottom line improvements in manufacturing efficiency.
